A day spent at NCSC Bisley is never a waste... But when you are taking part in A British Shooting Talent Identification event, well, that is something special...
The really brilliant thing is that this is open to anyone to apply. At this point my own experience is near novice, but that didn't matter one little bit
What you get (for a very nominal fee + Clays + Shells) is a days expert tuition and a frank assessment of what possibilities may be open to you within Clay Pigeon Shooting. Being driven by British Shooting, the emphasis is on the Olympic disciplines. Most of my day was spent with Katy Poulsom, a fully qualified ISSF Coach on the Olympic Skeet range, although there was also a chance to pop over to the Olympic Trap range and have a quick go. As this section was overseen by Steve Scott who took Bronze at Rio in 2016 in Olympic Double Trap, the standard of coaching becomes clear.
So where does my own future lay? It is unlikely that I will ever grace the podium at the Olympics, time is very much against me! With this said I am told that slightly lower representative honours may be achievable. As with anything this is dependant on having the willpower and resources to follow your dream. For these first baby steps I have been offered a development place to help me master the basics, and the we will see where we go...
In conclusion then, I would unreservedly reccommend taking the time to join one of these courses, I have no doubt that it is time and money well spent. They are held around the country. Look at the British Shooting website for details.
